**An important message from Families Northwest: A movement for strong, healthy families can only advance if marriage is honored and preserved as the union between one man and one woman. Families Northwest is committed to making the Northwest region the world’s best place for marriage, family life and children. This is the vision that drives everything we do and we believe in it now more than ever before. And that’s why in Fall of 2002 we embarked on the most aggressive, comprehensive campaign we’ve ever developed for making this vision become a reality. We call it the Northwest Marriage & Family Movement.
This campaign has two distinct, but interdependent components. The first of these is our “regional marriage promotion campaign." Simply put, this is our strategy to inform the media, government, schools, businesses and the general public that marriage matters. Whether it’s through our “Family Matters” radio program and newspaper column, our website, guest newspaper editorials or other media initiatives, we’re getting the message out that healthy marriages are essential to the strength of our families and communities.
The second component of the Northwest Marriage & Family Movement is the “community transformation plan” or “CTP,” which represents the work we do on the ground level in specific communities. In the CTP, Families Northwest partners with a diverse group of community leaders (church, government, business, education and civic) to develop programs and strategies for creating healthy families and turning the tide on family breakdown in that community. These community-wide efforts are exciting opportunities to create positive, long-term change in Northwest communities.
The Northwest Marriage & Family Movement will have an unprecedented impact throughout our region – couples being prepared for lifelong marriages, families being strengthened and restored, and entire communities being transformed. We are very hopeful for what the future holds for families.
