Transcript A few years ago in a tiny chapel in Colorado my mom and dad did something that has had a lasting impact on our whole family. In front of their children, grandchildren and a few special friends, my parents recommitted themselves to each other by reciting their wedding vows on their 40th anniversary. It was a tender, affirming and hopeful picture of marriage in a society that has diminished and nearly forgotten the unique and noble institution of marriage. “Celebration of Marriage” services for couples married 25 and 50 years are not uncommon. I even heard of one couple married for 74 years renewing their vows. These couples are making powerful impressions on younger people... those that may be dating, engaged or others that need to see the hope during a difficult time in their marriage. Our vows of love and commitment, to honor and cherish, to respect and to hang in there during the difficulties need to be lived out daily and occasionally re-celebrated in a special or public way.
