Transcript
A couple I know shared a bit about their early days following their wedding. The bride’s parents never argued or disagreed in front of the children, while the groom’s parents argued and debated whenever they disagreed. What ensued was a lack of respectful communication. We all need to be reminded that conflict and misunderstandings between two people are normal and should be expected. And yet escalations from the smallest differences can happen quickly. The key is to face your conflict with open and respectful communication. Relationship expert Dr. John Gottman’s research suggests that, “relationships succeed when a wife is assured that she can articulate her needs and her husband can communicate to his wife that she’s being heard.” Growing relationships must resolve conflict and the keys are respect and honesty.
