There were probably people who thought the adopted teen who dropped out of school at sixteen was headed down a dead-end road. But time and history would write a different story. Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy’s, passed away January 7th, 2002. The recognized hamburger spokesman was adopted as an infant and never knew his real parents. Dave, as we all came to know him by his 800 commercials, got his first job at 12 and chose to leave high school. He went to work, eventually working with Harland Sanders, the Kentucky Fried Chicken Colonel. Dave focused his career on the restaurant business, he said, because he loved watching families get together for a meal. At 29 he decided to create the best family restaurant in town, purchased a string of failing KFC’s and became a millionaire six years later. Because of his experience, Thomas was the national spokesman on adoption and dedicated his life to "leaving no child behind." Overall there are 100,000 kids in this country waiting to be adopted. Wouldn’t it be great to fulfill Dave’s dream? |
