Isn’t it all about communication? There are so many times when we trace our problems back to their roots and find that we didn’t understand each other or we weren’t understood. At times we expect so much from our family. Isn’t it strange that we assume the worst about the people we know the best, especially when they say something that’s different than what we hoped for? I heard a story about a lady waiting for a flight at an airport. She bought a bag of cookies and a book and then sat at a table opposite a man who was also waiting for his next flight. As the two waited, she noticed him quietly reach for a cookie and eat one! She was appalled! She had a cookie, then he ate another. Outrageous! One by one they ate every cookie until he broke the last one, leaving her half. She boarded her connecting flight and was fuming! But later, as she sat in her seat, she opened her purse to get out her book. There was the unopened bag of cookies she had purchased. She had been eating his cookies! Next time we think the worst of someone maybe we should insure accurate communication. And give the other person the benefit of the doubt.
