Remember that line from songwriter Joni Mitchell? Childhood flies by, especially for us busy parents. Author and speaker Chuck Snyder talks about how much fun it is being a grandfather. He says it’s because he gets a second chance to do things right. Chuck goes on to describe how he was so busy being a parent that he never had fun; so concerned about making his kids into useful citizens that he never took time to listen. He gave solutions, even though at times, they hurt. He goes on to say the one thing grandparents have that parents don’t have is time! Moms and dads, especially young parents, are working on marriages, starting careers, taking care of in-law social obligations. Chuck’s words remind us parents to enjoy this busy but special time with our kids. Have some fun, play with them and listen to them. You won’t get another chance until you’re a grandparent.
