Today’s economic prosperity doesn’t touch every family, but being a good neighbor should. At dinner one night a family was discussing the day’s activities when one of the kids talked about a girl in her class. "She wears the same clothes every day. And the other kids make fun of her a lot." The concerned teen found out that this girl was from a single-parent family of five where the mom is doing everything she can to make ends meet. But with the prices of gas and electricity rising, and the kids growing up, the harsh world is devouring their finances. They didn’t even have enough money for food. Upon discovering this, the concerned family went to the store and secretly left a few bags of groceries on the front porch. Later that night, the family enjoyed imagining the joyful surprise of the other family discovering the bags of food and necessities. You know, raising kids is tough enough! But neighbors can provide a hand to families who may need help. Imagine what we can do as neighbors if we look out for others needs, or give some anonymous assistance, or maybe invite someone over to dinner. |
