It’s funny how many things we can find to argue about in America today. As a parent, wouldn’t you agree that our job as a mom or dad is to "love your children with all your heart and all your soul." After this statement was made in a speech recently, Jeffery Goldfarb, a sociologist from New School University, responded by saying he found this statement totally inappropriate in defining what parents' relationships with their kids should be. William Benoit, a communications professor at the University of Missouri, found this same statement "downright devious" in the wake of the recent school shootings. The reason for the disagreement? It was the President, George W. Bush, who encouraged parents saying, "Your most important job is to love your children with all your heart and soul." If we don’t talk about family in leadership then aren’t we ignoring the most important element in our society? Isn’t it time to realize that political leadership is part of leadership? And leadership should affirm relationships, family, and the values of love. |
