With the ever-shifting trends of a culture focusing in on style and youth, common sense and wisdom are a couple of areas where we haven’t gained a whole lot of ground. And yet we’re frequently not noticing or tapping into the wisdom that’s all around us - seasoned people in their 60’s, 70’s, and beyond. Hey, they’ve raised kids, persevered in marriage, and weathered storms. A generation ago extended families were more often together and had conversations around the dinner table that spanned three generations. But in today’s mobile society, this valuable relationship is less common. Now we can’t turn back the clock, but we can seek a relationship with an older person or a younger person. If you’re getting up in years or have recently experienced the empty nest, how about finding that younger person in need of mentoring. That frustrated mom of a toddler next door just may need you to let her know that she’s got a friend with an encouraging word. Or how about that rattled young dad at the office? He just may need you to assure him with a smile, hey, that’s pretty normal for a teenage son. We need each other, and we can help.
