If you were a teen who’d never seen love and health in a family, you might’ve become like the all too large number of kids who end up in juvenile detention centers like the one at Camp Naselle, Washington. This “special camp” transforms kids from troubled backgrounds into fire fighters. Here they gain camaraderie and character. And the gentleman who leads these girls is Sid Hicklin. He trains and guides them, and trusts them until they give him reason not to. The girls adore him - he’s like a father figure to them, which is something they need. Many notice the way he talks about his wife and family with obvious love. One of the girls says, “On the outside world, you just don’t see a lot of that.” Sid Hicklin is a great picture for all of us, of how we can be ambassadors for family by speaking positively and lovingly about our wives, husbands and kids. This gives children - especially impressionable kids - a healthy picture of marriage and family. |
