A modern American dilemma in marriage is where's the passion? Dr. Robert Sternberg did a landmark study at Yale University on what makes for romantic love. He describes the three components, the three sides of a triangle, as passion, intimacy and commitment. Passion's easy at first but it certainly doesn’t stay at a level ten all through your married life. And intimacy is the relational closeness with your mate, and it doesn’t stay at a level ten everyday all through your life. The good news is the third side of the triangle is commitment. Sternberg concludes that love is fluid, and this should encourage us to persevere. Want to renew the passion in your marriage? Demonstrate your commitment and develop intimate communication. What would put your spouse first on your priority list and how would they want to be communicated to with empathy, respect and honest feelings?
