Because for the first time ever, social science researchers, in particular Dr. Robert Sternberg, have done a long-term intensive study on “what makes for romantic love.” What they discovered was that there are three parts to romantic love like three sides of a triangle. One side is passion; it’s natural, instinctual and has a lot to do with sexual attraction. The other side of love is intimacy; it’s that side of you that wants to know someone deeply and have them know you. It’s being totally comfortable in relationship with another person. These are fluid and need a solid foundation. A third side of love at the base of the triangle is commitment. Three components working together - passion, intimacy and commitment - these are the essence of a strong marriage that can go the distance and make love last.
