As busy as life is today, I find I can’t get a whole lot done if I spend a lot of time in front of the TV. But one thing that gets my whole family’s attention is watching NFL football, especially the Super Bowl. And it was no different in 2004 when 138 million people sat down for Super Bowl XXXVIII. This year the NFL’s partnership with MTV and Janet Jackson brought a surprise blitz to family friendly TV. But I’m actually hopeful following this event, that many families have discussed what’s noble and good on TV today and what’s cheap humor and crass entertainment. Many in our society are beginning to say that it’s time for our culture to turn around. And marketing sex through public television is a slap in our face. America’s families and even our teens are waking up and realizing that we’ve been sold a counterfeit of real love. The “fool’s gold” seen in modern entertainment is cheapening something special. It’s time to honor the love of husbands and wives - the commitment of a dynamic marriage and the beauty of sexual intimacy reserved for that one relationship.
