The NFL’s half-time fiasco at Super Bowl XXXVIII has brought to the forefront the issue of sexuality and sports and marketing the two together. Be it commercials or half-time shows, we see and hear quite a lot about these two topics together: sports and sex. But let me tell you a story with a different and very powerful spin. It’s about two famous Super Bowl quarterbacks from 30 years ago. One, a playboy-bachelor, Broadway Joe Namath. In contrast was straight-laced Dallas Cowboy QB Roger Staubach. In an interview Staubach was asked, "How does it feel to be compared with Joe Namath, who’s so sexually active he has a different woman everytime we see him." Roger answered, "Let me tell you, I like sex just as much as Joe Namath. Only I like it with one woman, my wife." Roger Staubach is still with that one woman today, his wife Marianne! I think it’s time we turn to some of the positive examples of sports and remind ourselves that lasting satisfaction can be found in the lasting love of a husband and wife.
