Transcript
In the crazy stories about Britney Spears' weekend marriage, some helpful and important points were made clear. Spears' attorney who tried to clean up the mess, which involved a hurried Las Vegas wedding and some thoughtless behavior, noted that the reason for annulment was that this couple was not prepared. They didn’t know each other’s likes and dislikes, they didn’t know their desires to either have or not have children, and they didn’t even know which state of residency they each would desire. The point made to the judge was this couple hadn’t thought through or gotten to know each other on a level that a marriage commitment requires. And this points us to a hopeful and growing movement of marriage preparation by clergy and counselors; a well-proven process for teaching couples who they are and what it’s going to take to go the distance in a healthy marriage. From Hollywood to the rest of us, investing in marriage will lead to lasting joy rather than regrets.
