Transcript Past Superbowl coach John Gruden’s explosive demeanor had a lot of fans entertained during the 2003 NFL play-offs. But a different side of the world champion coach was revealed in the midst of a player’s family crisis. Wide receiver Joe Jurevecius’s son Michael was born pre-mature with a serious lung problem days before the NFC Championship game. This was the most important game in Tampa Bay's history. With that, Joe was faced with the dilemma of facing Gruden and requesting time off. Teary-eyed, Gruden said he had three boys and didn’t know what he would do if he was in Joe’s place. The coach then told the player to go to the hospital, do what needs to be done and meet the team in Philadelphia. Joe said he would never forget those encouraging words to put his wife and child first and trust that the rest would fall into place. If you ask me, this was Gruden’s best coaching during a Super bowl year.
