The Seattle Seahawks' 2003 season was an encouraging one. It’s also been a year of encouragement for quarterback Trent Dilfer, despite deep loss. Back in the spring, Trent’s young son fell sick. A friend of Dilfer's from Washington, D.C. bought an Encouragement Bible, signed it, then sent it to each of the cities where Dilfer had played. Along the way hundreds signed the book with messages of hope, as Dilfer's five-year-old son Trevin lay in a hospital. But in April, Trevin died from a virus. The book eventually made its way around the Northwest and took on even more significant meaning with messages of sympathy, comfort and love. At the end of the year the Encouragement Bible was presented to Trent and his wife. His teammates voted him the team’s most courageous player. Despite their tragic loss, his faith and the overwhelming encouragement of his friends lead Trent to say, “this has been one of the richest years in my family's life.” Everyone of us needs and can give encouragement. |
