Do you try and understand your life sometimes by compartmentalizing? For example, putting work and marriage in different kinds of boxes? Unfortunately, these compartments can’t fool us because they are totally connected. What happens in the home affects what happens at work. And how we feel at work affects our emotions at home. Recent studies and insightful companies are recognizing this connection, and its importance for families. Employers are realizing that their businesses have a giant impact on the way people spend their time and the way they’re able to nurture their family. In a recent Wirthlin Worldwide national poll, 87 percent of Americans agreed that businesses should voluntarily do more to help strengthen their employees' marriages by offering flextime, job sharing, or home-based options. The poll went on to say "Americans overwhelmingly support marriage-friendly employment practices." Many businesses are seeing that this is in the best interest of their employees and their business. Lower turnover rates, easier recruiting, positive morale, and improving performance. As employees and employers, isn’t it time we change the way we think about work and prioritize marriages and families? |
