How A Strong Work Ethic Benefits Family

When I played football I used to have a couple of fun pictures of my family right over my locker where I could see them everyday. Now that I work out of an office, I’ve got a little extra room and a lot more pictures. But interestingly I took a course from a business consultant and heard a different perspective. He was recommending that we eliminate as many distractions as possible, including pictures of our family! I was shocked! But here’s the gist: candy bowls, hobby relics and even family pictures can foster time squandering, interruptions, socializing, and lost time. This guy recommends that a person put in a solid, focused eight or nine hour day. Now studies show you can spend more time on the job, but you won’t accomplish more work. Interruptions and extended time in social conversation take away from doing your job. He went on to say an undistracted work ethic actually will help you spend more time talking to your family at home, rather than about them at work. Hey, what’s best for you, to be at work longer socializing or to be home sooner? By the way, keep the pictures up. |
