Palm pilots, pagers, cell phones, faxes, and computers - we are living in an age where we have more communicating devices than ever. Yet one subject that still grinds communication to a silent halt is a subject that most parents dread. When do you talk to your kids and what do you say to them about sex? On an Oprah Winfrey show a mom sat in tears next to her daughter who revealed to a national audience that the 14-year-old girl was quite sexually active. Oprah probed and found out that the mother had never talked to her about this vital and critical area, and she pleaded with the mom and said, “Don’t you see, you have to talk to your daughter about this!” Oprah’s right. Kids are being bombarded with sexual messages and are faced with these issues way too early. Don’t wait to talk to them about it. A key way to love your teen as a parent is to be sure to talk to them about the crucial areas of life - like relationships, marriage and sex. |
