One of the famous commercials at this year's Super Bowl included the pop group "In-Sync", who delivered a message to a dad at the front door of his home. The message was simply that they’re not the role models for his kids, parents are. That message reminded me of another popular entertainer and sports figure, Charles Barkley, who a few years back complained that people shouldn’t be worrying about measuring him up all the time, but should rather be looking at parents. Barkley insisted that moms and dads were the true role models for their kids. You know while it’s true that kids are influenced by pro-athletes, the core message backed up by current research is that parents have the biggest influence on kid’s lives.

So whether your musical taste are In-Sync or out of sync, and whether Charles Barkley is your best or worst nightmare, there’s a true message to remember from both of them. Parents make a difference and have a powerful role in their kids lives, daily. Particularly in a day and age when kids need us more than ever before.
