Eric: Maybe it’s me, Jeff, but it seems like the healing steps of forgiveness are becoming rare in our culture.

Jeff: I totally agree Eric. When you consider incidents like road rage or our kid’s athletic events, we’ve experienced lots of offenses, but little forgiveness. There was baseball pitcher John Rocker, who, in a published interview with a journalist, insults the residents of New York. Or the politician who gets caught on videotape in a lie, admits it, but never apologizes. Or a parent who goes ballistic at a little league game, and chews out the referee over a call. So how do any of us learn forgiveness?

Well, I believe it starts in the home. The blended family, the single family, your family needs to be a place where today’s children and teens see the steps of forgiveness modeled. Now, that may mean swallowing a little pride and yes, apologizing to our children. But the rewards of teaching a future generation, our kids, the keys to forgiveness are priceless.
