Transcript Psychologist Larry Crabb said, "One of the most troublesome things in our life is being blessed." By that he meant at times we forget the importance of our relationship with our God who does the blessing, and with each other, when we are given so much. This nation is facing its first recession in decades and the impact is significant on many families that are losing their jobs. Yet the overall material wealth in America is so significant that it is easy for us to forget the most important things, relationships and even the Giver of those blessings. Since September 11th all of us are more attuned to the most lasting and important things. And this Thanksgiving can be a great Thanksgiving! Beyond just eating and enjoying our blessings, we can create opportunity for everyone around our tables to share their gratitude. Try this - have everyone fill out a 3 x 5 card and write one or two things you’re especially grateful for on it, but don’t sign it. Then during your gathering read and guess who wrote the cards. This can be a way to satisfy the heart and not just the appetite on this memorable holiday. |
