Transcript
In late October, 1987 the stock market plummeted 30 percent in one day and many thought an irreversible crash had occurred. But in the 90’s, particularly the late 90’s, many buyers and traders got the impression the market only goes in one direction - up. Over the last year Wall Street has reminded us that a roller coaster goes up and down. Isn’t it kind of the same way with marriage? It can have its highs and its lows, its bulls and its bears. But frankly marriage is a lot more important than any market. Researcher Scott Stanley has said, “a bad marriage is not a fixed thing.” In other words, it is not a foregone conclusion that it will stay bad. The research reveals that there is tremendous instability in happiness in marriages - it’s volatile, it goes up and down. When couples are in the downward cycle and not happy, Stanley reminds them that they should not resign themselves to a permanent and hopeless condition. But rather persevere, seek help and invest to find the long term joys that marriage brings.
