My wife Stacy and I were helping establish a mentor group in our church. Our goal was to make sure there were plenty of couples to walk through the first few years of marriage with newlyweds. Following the training, one of the couples that we trained came up to us and said, "You guys are raising four boys - your marriage needs help! We’d love to mentor you." You know, after eighteen years of marriage we could have been kind of proud or naive and said "we don’t need it!" But the truth is we do need it. This older couple, who were married longer than us, had raised three boys and had been through more seasons of marriage, wanted to come along side us and help us understand and grow our marriage. Marriage mentoring helps couples communicate, understand one another’s differences, and build a romantic love that perseveres. If you’d like to be mentored, just look around for a seasoned couple whose love is evident, who seem open and honest, and who’d be fun to get together with occasionally. |
