My dad, Jack Kemp, played in the NFL for 13 years and led the Buffalo Bills to two championships in the mid-1960’s. But in his freshman year in college, his football coach Peyton Jordan called him into his office and said "Jack, out of all the guys on this team, you’re the one who I think can go into the NFL, if you really work hard." Years later he found out that he told that to a bunch of other guys on the team. But that vision totally motivated my dad as an athlete. As a parent, an employer, a teacher, or a coach, how can you help the kids you care about see a bright future? The author Jonathan Swift once noted that "vision is the art of seeing what's invisible to others." Who was it in your life that gave you a goal? A vision for the future? A picture of what you could become? And who is the young person today that your gift of vision can help guide through the challenging days of adolescence, for their bright future’s sake? |
