Transcript Leadership guru Tom Peters shares an analogy about a flight crew setting it's destination and following through with their flight plan. After the flight plan is set, the crew may have to make adjustments to the plan because of wind changes, obstacles, or storms. The one element that guides the crew is their destination. Too often instead of giving kids a destination - clear goals in life and relationships - we give them emergency procedures. Kids are being trained in schools to "just say no." They’re being taught various adjustments to their flight plan. Kids are getting more instructions on how to avoid negative relationships and behavior, but have we failed to give them a destination? Something to say yes to? How can we better model positive relationships and teach kids how to succeed in their relationship goals? One of the greatest needs as a parent, a mentor, teacher, or coach, is to help a young person define a vision for their life - a destination - so that they have strength for the future and hope to make it through the storms of adolescence. |
