Transcript I can remember as a boy competing against one of my best friends in a wrestling match in the 6th grade. My friend Doug pinned me and I lost. I can remember vividly my shattered emotions. Looking back it would have been foolish if they were to eliminate wrestling because of my tears on the drive home with my dad. I learned through that event that my dad loved me, not because I won, but because I competed. And I went on to learn incredible lessons: persevering through difficulty, tackling challenges through courage, dedicating yourself to a team. Competition is healthy for young boys, and working to eliminate it from their lives can work to their detriment, especially in school. This is something we can’t afford because fewer and fewer boys are succeeding academically. Let’s remember the valuable role of competition - the positive lessons and character it can provide.
