Transcript Christina Sommers’ points out in her book "The War Against Boys" that boys today are falling behind academically and filling less college spots. Sommers says "guys are being discouraged and prevented from competing and getting involved in the positive interactive benefits of competition." Did you know there have even been some humorous attempts at keeping competition out of schools and kids playing youth sports with no scores? But kids want to know the score! And it’s okay, as long as the lessons of character and competition are made primary. Hey, competition can’t be stifled - my home of four boys proves it! It’s natural, particularly for young boys. The key is to emphasize character and the lessons learned through competition; to channel competition for a good purpose, not eliminate it all together.
