Grandparents are Well Springs of Love

After a month of staying at home with their newborn son, a dad decided that he and his wife would go out for the night. The two reluctantly asked their parents to baby-sit, thinking they wouldn’t come. The two new parents assured the older couple they would be back in two hours. When the couple returned from their date at the movies, they jokingly said to their parents, “Let’s see, baby-sitting rates are about a dollar seventy five an hour.” “For each of us?” the grandfather asked. “That’s right.” The grandfather took out his wallet and handed his son seven dollars. Stunned, the parents realized that grandma and grandpa felt it a privilege to be asked to watch the new baby. Are we ignoring the valuable and very special gifts that people in their 60’s, 70’s, and even 80’s have to offer? Gifts of love and wisdom acquired from years of experience that can offer hope, encouragement and help. Grandparenting and adopted grandparenting are well springs of love, replenishing the care and attention that all kids need. |
