Successful and satisfying relationships are focused far beneath the surface of appearance. The bottom line is relationship-based unconditional love, not appearance-based. Love like that was shown by a young husband whose newly wed bride was scheduled for facial surgery soon after their wedding. Following the surgery, the doctor informed the couple that it was unavoidable, but certain facial nerves controlling her facial expression and the contours of her face were damaged from the surgery. As the bandages were removed this new husband erased his wife’s fears and insecurities as he gently caressed her head and contorted his mouth to hers in a tender and romantic kiss. He then whispered "you’re beautiful, I love you." This love went to the core of her being; it didn’t stop at the shape of her face. Let’s remember to carefully discern the shallow measurements of our culture and start judging beauty, and loving unconditionally, based on relationship.
