Eric: A recent study by the Kaiser Foundation discovered that 84% of Hollywood’s sit-coms include sexual content. Jeff Kemp is the Director of Families Northwest. Jeff, how does a parent deal with these powerful messages?
Jeff: Well, first I think we need a reality check. Parents, isn’t it true that sex is the most intimate, enjoyable, and safe when it’s in the context of marriage? Someone explained to me a while back that when a person begins to work as a Canadian treasury official in the area of counterfeit money, he or she spends months repeatedly examining money. Not the fake note, but authentic, real currency. These folks study it in all conditions; under black light, sun light, artificial light, wet money, crumpled money, new money, and in every denomination. They get so used to the real thing, that when they’re out doing their job, a counterfeit bill sticks out like a sore thumb. Don’t you think we need to model for our kids love, positive communication, and respect for marriage and sexuality? So when they see counterfeits, they are inoculated, and know the real from the imitation. |
