Transcript
Have you ever laughed at a joke about marriage or watched a television show like “Married With Children” that has spouses putting each other down and making fun of each other and marriage? Words are so much more powerful than we often realize. Words shape attitudes, and attitudes shape behavior. Our attitudes reinforce or diminish the value we place on someone or something. Too often people speak negatively about marriage, which dishonors their spouse and devalues their family. But there’s a second problem with this. It spreads a message to those around that marriage isn’t good and it’s almost impossible to find a good spouse. And many people today, both young and old, are looking for hope. Now marriage is hard work! But we need to let the world know that our marriage is valuable and our spouse is loved. Speaking positive helps us act positive. And it also gives encouragement and hope to those around us who are looking to us to see whether or not marriage is positive and hopeful. When we are talking about our family let’s be positive and give a gift of hope to those around us.
