Husbands, one of the most powerful things we can do for our wives is to frequently encourage them. And wives, marriage can reach new levels of happiness and security if you will just encourage your husband. But beyond marriage, one of the greatest needs our kids have in today’s culture is love; it’s encouragement from parents. I can remember when I was playing football getting a call from my dad after a game. He told me he had seen our game on TV and went on for a few sentences describing to me over the phone how great I looked! I said "Dad, I didn’t even get in the game." He said, "I know, I saw you warming up, you looked great!" Although at the time I thought what he said was corny, I never forgot it. And now as a father of four boys, I realize more than ever the powerful effects of encouraging our kids. You know, it’s easy to see the things that need to be corrected. But if we focus on the positive glimmers of good character in our kids, we can praise them for what they will become and encourage them to their highest potential. |
