Life has an amazing way of teaching us. In a cab ride on his way to a marriage conference, renowned marriage counselor and author Bill Doherty picked up some encouragement and wisdom from a 68 year-old African American taxi cab driver. This guy had been married 47 years! First he explained his remarkable habit of apologizing first throughout their marriage. Then the cabby recounted to his passenger the time one of his ten grandchildren asked him, "Grandpa, are you the head of the family?" The grandpa responded slowly and carefully, "Yes, I guess I am! But if I’m the head, grandma is the neck. And ya’ know, the head never moves without the neck moving first." Forty-seven years of experience had solidified the truth that the man that wants to build a great marriage is the man with the greatest respect for, and the most open ear to, his wife.
