Are you an encouraging person? Do you like to be encouraged? I want to urge you to be open to sharing about your life, your family and your marriage, so that you can be encouraged by others and they can be encouraged by you. Just opening a conversation with a taxi driver can lead to incredible wisdom and encouragement, as happened to marriage author Bill Doherty. Doherty asked the cabby how long the driver had been married. The cabby was a 68 year-old African American gentleman who had been married for 47 years and appeared to be in great physical shape. The author asked him what was the key to their successful marriage? The cabby said to get things out in the open - no secrets. When you have a fight you have to make up afterwards, which means someone needs to apologize first. He added that he’s made it his habit to apologize first. That’s the sort of male leadership that women will respond to. Marriage leadership puts the marriage first. It is humble enough to seek the good of the other before self. The result is a lasting marriage.
