Parents, have you ever seen your kids do the exact opposite of what you want them to do? More importantly, do you ever wonder if you’re making a difference in their lives? I think you might be encouraged by some recent research done on the abstinence programs in America and teen sexuality. Although the campaign is of real value, what researchers found is that teens that are abstaining from sex before marriage have parents who made it very clear to their kids that pre-marital sex is not a safe or a good way to go. These parents were teaching their kids that they had standards of what was right and wrong, what was helpful and not helpful to their teens' futures. This was backed up in a recent study that Families Northwest did, where we found that teens are influenced by their parents 7 times more than any other source when it comes to kids' views about relationships. Once again it reinforces the fact that parents that set standards for their kids find that their kids will usually listen and follow their parent's guidance.
