Transcript
A teenager in today’s culture is the real survivor! Days packed full of peer pressure, questionable media messages, and all too often destructive environments. And if your kids have a disability, a unique characteristic, or an obvious learning problem, the challenges to survive may seem impossible. So how do we parents help our teens get through these days where self-esteem is torpedoed daily? As parents it’s so important to teach our kids skills to cope with future pressures. Discovering and developing their interests and talents will open up their dreams and improve how they view themselves. Some should be introduced to music or art and learn how to play an instrument, which later can lead to playing in a band. Encouragement in sports opens up character, development and confidence. Some have advanced mechanical or computing skills. Shouldn’t we as parents be looking ahead and getting our kids involved in what interests them? And then guide them in developing those talents. This way our kids will see themselves as competent; with self-esteem to weather the storms of adolescence.
