A Tribute to Nathan Chapman - Part 1

The first American soldier killed by enemy fire in Afghanistan was honored when Sgt. Nathan Ross Chapman was memorialized by the military. His widow, Renae Chapman, helped unveil a granite engraving that had her husband’s name added to a Special Forces memorial. The roll for the 3rd Battalion was then called until Sgt. Chapman’s name was read.
The troops were silent.
“Sgt. First Class Nathan Chapman.”
Again, silence.
“Sgt. First Class R. Nathan Chapman.”
Then the silence was answered with a 21-gun salute, followed by taps. Studies have shown that at present there are 24 million kids growing up in homes without their fathers. When disappointments at school or the challenges of the teenage years hits home, these kids will make a call for their dads. But, it will be their moms who will courageously step up to answer that call. Dads, will you be there to answer that call and the call of those 24 million that will need help to guide them through the crucial times? |
