Why Jeff Van Gundy left Pro Basketball

Today’s professional basketball coach has little time for anything else but basketball. And on an early December morning Jeff Van Gundy stunned not only New York Knick fans, but the NBA as well, when he resigned from the head coach’s position. After winning five of there last six games, a press conference was held where Van Gundy announced he was quitting mid-season because he wanted to spend more time with his wife and more time with his six year-old daughter Mattie. The coach added he was burned out and wanted to go home for the holidays. He said, "sometimes the tough decisions you make in life don’t come at the best time. But when you know something is right in your heart, you do it." The coach concluded that he was going to step back and exhale for the first time in 13 years. When he told his daughter of his decision that morning, she asked "does that mean you get to have lunch with me?" What it means is that "Van Gundy the man" just told his wife and daughter in the loudest way possible that he loved them! You know, I suspect they’ll look back on this as a championship season... in their family and life. |
